Behavioural measures of pain

The most widely used means of developing pain assessment techniques has been by observing the animal’s external appearance and its behaviour.

This cat has a medical condition that causes pain due to tissue inflammation.  If you have worked through our 'Basic Assessment - Laboratory Animal Health and Welfare' tutorial, you may appreciate the change in its posture, and the lack of grooming of its coat – these changes might be related to pain.
